Toronto: One person was killed and five others were injured in a mass shooting on Wednesday in the Lawrence Heights neighborhood in Toronto, Canada. Toronto police said they received a report of gunfire in the area of Flemington and Zachary roads near Ranee Avenue and Allen Road. Upon arrival, police found several victims at the scene.
According to Qatar News Agency, Duty Senior Officer Baheer Sarvanandan confirmed the death of a man in his 40s at the scene, while four men and a woman were taken to hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries. Sarvanandan noted that the investigation is still ongoing, and that several suspects are involved in the incident, but it has not yet been determined whether they fled in a vehicle. No firearms have been recovered from the crime scene so far.
Toronto Mayor Olivia Chow expressed her shock at the incident and confirmed in a statement on X that her office is in direct contact with the city’s police. This incident is one of the most serious mass shootings to hit Toronto in recent months, and police are continuing their efforts to determine the circumstances of the crime and apprehend the perpetrators.
