14 Dead After Gold Mine Collapsed in North Sudan

Fourteen people are confirmed dead after a gold mine collapsed in North Sudan’s Wadi Halfa district, Sudanese authorities have said.

The mine collapsed on due to adjacent mines use of heavy machinery causing its walls to crack and eventually collapse, leaving at least 14 people dead and others injured.

Gold comes at the forefront of the mineral resources in Sudan, as the country is one of the top gold producers in Africa. Collapses in gold mines in northern Sudan reoccur due to traditional excavation methods.
