Guayaquil: An earthquake measuring 5.1 magnitude on the Richter scale struck on Monday Guayaquil, the largest city in Ecuador.
According to Qatar News Agency, the US Geological Survey (USGS) said in a statement that the epicenter of the quake occurred 11 km southeast of Guayaquil, at a depth of 82.7 km.
There have been no reports of casualties or material losses as a result of the earthquake.
Ecuador, which is constantly exposed to earthquakes due to its location on the borders of the Nazca Plate, witnessed in April of 2016 an earthquake of 7.8 magnitude that destroyed villages in the coastal provinces of Manabi and Esmeraldas, killing 673 people.
