According to Qatar News Agency, the quake occurred at a depth of 176.2 kilometers, about 137 kilometers northeast of Lospalos.
There were no immediate reports of casualties or material damage.
Timor-Leste is prone to frequent seismic activity as it lies along the Pacific Ring of Fire.
