Davao occidental: An earthquake measuring 5 on the Richter scale struck Tuesday Davao Occidental, in southern Philippines. The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology reported that the epicenter of the earthquake was located 80 kilometers from the town of Sarangani in the province, at a depth of 100 kilometers.
According to Qatar News Agency, the Philippines is prone to volcanic and seismic activity due to its location along the Pacific Ring of Fire. In October 2013, a devastating 7.1-magnitude earthquake struck the country, killing more than 220 people.
