6th Islamic Solidarity Games’ Handball Draw Puts Qatar Top of Group A


Riyadh: The draw for the handball competition at the 6th Islamic Solidarity Games Riyadh 2025 placed Qatar, the defending champion, at the top of Group A, sharing the group with Iran, the United Arab Emirates, and the Maldives.

According to Qatar News Agency, Group B on the other hand includes Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Bahrain, and Iraq. Handball is one of the Islamic Solidarity Games’ most prominent sports, especially with the participation of a strong lineup of Asian and Arab national teams. The draw resulted in two relatively balanced groups.

The 6th Islamic Solidarity Games will be held in the Saudi capital with an expected participation of more than 3,000 male and female athletes from 57 Islamic countries, competing in 23 different sports. The Games will include, for the first time, camel racing and e-sports, reflecting the continuous development of the event.

Qatar is one of the top contenders for the gold medal, despite the strength of the Iranian team, which has a solid record at the Asian level. Qatar
‘s technical and tactical superiority gives it a clear advantage, especially given its strong determination to defend the title.
