Premier League: Arsenal Seizes Top Spot After Beating West Ham as Liverpool Falls to Chelsea


Arsenal: Arsenal claimed sole possession of first place in the Premier League on Saturday, defeating visiting West Ham United 2-0 at Emirates Stadium and capitalizing on Liverpool’s loss to Chelsea in the headline clash of Matchday 7.



According to Qatar News Agency, Declan Rice opened the scoring for Arsenal in the 38th minute, while Bukayo Saka doubled the lead from the penalty spot in the 67th. The win lifts Arsenal to 16 points, one ahead of Liverpool and two clear of both Tottenham and Bournemouth. West Ham, meanwhile, suffered its third defeat in a four-match winless streak, remaining on 4 points in 19th place.



In the day’s marquee matchup at Stamford Bridge, Liverpool, who began the season with seven straight wins across competitions, looked flat and suffered a third consecutive defeat, falling 2-1 to Chelsea. Ecuadorian midfielder Moises Caicedo gave Chelsea the lead in the 14th minute, before Dutch forward Cody Gakpo equalized for Liverpool in the 63rd. Brazilian winger Estevao sealed the win with a dramatic stoppage-time goal in the 97th minute.



Liverpool now sits second with 15 points, while Chelsea climbs to sixth with 11.



Elsewhere, Tottenham moved temporarily into third place after edging Leeds United 2-1. French striker Mathys Tel and Ghanaian midfielder Mohammed Kudus scored for Spurs in the 23rd and 57th minutes, respectively. Swiss forward Noah Okafor netted for Leeds in the 34th.



Tottenham now shares 14 points with Bournemouth, two behind Crystal Palace, who face Everton on Sunday. Leeds remains 13th with 8 points.



At Old Trafford, Manchester United earned its third win in five matches, defeating Sunderland 2-0. Mason Mount and Slovenian striker Benjamin Sesko scored in the 8th and 31st minutes, respectively. United now sits eighth with 10 points, while Sunderland drops to sixth with 11.



The round concludes Sunday with five fixtures, including Wolverhampton vs. Brighton, Aston Villa vs. Burnley, Newcastle vs. Nottingham Forest, and Brentford vs. Manchester City.
