Berlin: The third Arab Cultural House “Al Diwan” Book Fair has concluded in Berlin, Germany. The three-day event successfully brought together around 100 Arab and foreign publishing houses.
According to Qatar News Agency, the final day of the fair featured a panel discussion titled “From the Sands of Seleen to the Sidewalks of Berlin,” which highlighted poetic dialogues between Modern Standard Arabic, Nab?i, and German. The panel focused on the art of poetry, particularly the nuances of translating verse while maintaining fidelity to meaning and intent. It also explored the impact of machine translation on literary works.
Another significant panel discussion centered around the contemporary Arabic novel in the Gulf region, with a special emphasis on women writers and the Qatari novel model. This discussion examined the evolution of Gulf literature, highlighting the progressive stages of the Qatari novel, the underlying influences, and the pivotal role of women in shaping the Gulf literary landscape.
The Arab Cultural House in Berlin, affiliated with the Embassy of the State of Qatar in Germany, organizes this annual book fair as part of its cultural activities. The event aims to realize the vision of forging connections and fostering mutual understanding among nations.
