Doha: Al Raya newspaper affirmed that Libya has a historic opportunity to reach a political solution that ensures security and stability and meets the aspirations of its people, praising Qatar’s unwavering support for this process and the efforts of the United Nations in this regard.
According to Qatar News Agency, in its editorial today, titled “Qatari Support for the Political Process in Libya,” the newspaper stated that Qatar reiterated yesterday its full support for the Libyan political process and relevant Security Council resolutions during the interactive dialogue of the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights on Libya. The protection of human rights in Libya remains a Qatari interest, especially during this transitional period the country is undergoing.
It added that the State of Qatar condemned all violations committed against the Libyan people and reaffirmed its sincere call for all parties to respect their obligations under international laws and agreements, to promote national reconciliation and transitional justice, and to ensure accountability for all violations committed against Libyans. The security, stability, and prosperity of the State of Libya are a Qatari priority.
Al Raya noted that Qatar’s position on Libya has always been clear. Qatar repeatedly declared its support for the Libyans and UN efforts to establish security, peace, and stability in their country. Qatar’s support for the UN-facilitated political process remains unchanged.
The daily said that Libyans have a historic opportunity to reach a political solution in their country backed by significant international support. The Libyan people expect all actors in the Libyan crisis, both domestically and internationally, to support the entry into a political process that leads to a comprehensive political agreement that includes all parties, preserves Libya’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, and fulfills the aspirations of its people for security and stability.
It highlighted that Qatar affirmed on every occasion, whether during bilateral meetings with Libyan and international officials, or through international forums, its firm and supportive position toward a political solution that ends the crisis and conflict and establishes a new era in which Libya belongs to all its citizens, away from the language of guns, war, and manufactured crises.
It continued by saying that achieving this goal requires all parties to listen to the voice of reason and wisdom and prioritize Libya’s supreme interests.
Al Raya concluded its editorial by emphasizing that the time has come for Libyan citizens to enjoy security and peace, to benefit from their country’s wealth to achieve sustainable development, and to play a role in rebuilding Libya on the foundations of partnership, justice, and integrity, without exclusion or marginalization, so that it may regain its natural position as an influential nation in the Arab world and within its African context.
