Muscat: The Arab League has welcomed the advisory opinion issued by the International Court of Justice (ICJ) yesterday, which emphasized the responsibility of the Israeli occupation in the delivery of aid to the Gaza Strip.
According to Qatar News Agency, the League also condemned the Israeli Knesset’s steps toward annexing occupied Palestinian territories in the West Bank, calling on the international community and the signatory states to the New York Declaration on the Implementation of the Two-State Solution to decisively confront these extremist Israeli trends.
Arab League Secretary-General Ahmed Aboul Gheit stated that silence regarding these Israeli moves will encourage the extreme right and settler groups to proceed with their plan to create a new reality on the ground by annexing Palestinian territories.
Aboul Gheit highlighted that the preliminary approval of two annexation laws yesterday represents a test case for the international community’s resolve to stand firmly against the far-right’s schemes.
He emphasized the need to activate sanctions and economic boycott policies against all settlement activities in Israel to send a unified message that annexation is globally unacceptable and will not pass.
The International Court of Justice (ICJ) ruled on Wednesday that Israel, as an occupying power, is obligated to facilitate and secure the entry of relief efforts implemented by the United Nations and its agencies, including the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA).
