Cairo: Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty held talks in Cairo with Chairperson of the African Union (AU) Commission Mahmoud Ali Youssouf on arrangements for the deployment of Egyptian troops to the African Union Support and Stabilization Mission in Somalia (AUSSOM).
According to Qatar News Agency, the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a press statement on Sunday, highlighting that Minister Abdelatty emphasized the need for ongoing coordination with international partners. This collaboration aims to secure adequate and sustainable funding for AUSSOM, which is essential for the mission to fulfill its mandate.
The statement reiterated Egypt’s strong support for the African Union’s initiatives to resolve conflicts and promote comprehensive development across Africa. This support aligns with the AU Agenda 2063, which seeks to enhance the continent’s growth and stability. Minister Abdelatty also expressed Egypt’s backing of the AU’s ongoing institutional reform efforts.
Furthermore, the minister highlighted the necessity of developing a unified African vision. He advocated for a comprehensive approach that would enhance Africa’s capacity to make significant progress towards continental integration.
