Berlin: German Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt announced his intention to extend border controls in his country. In a statement, the German Interior Minister said he had ordered stricter border surveillance following the assumption of duties by the new federal government in early May, and instructed the rejection of asylum seekers at the borders starting from May 8.
According to Qatar News Agency, this decision has sparked widespread criticism in some neighboring countries. Minister Dobrindt also affirmed the continued implementation of further deportation operations, explaining that this is necessary to ensure the return of individuals who cannot and should not remain in Germany to their home countries, noting that priority will be given to deporting criminals.
Germany is a member of the Schengen Area, which is supposed to have open borders.
