Berlin: The German government affirmed Wednesday its readiness to contribute militarily to securing any potential ceasefire in Ukraine.
According to Qatar News Agency, Germany’s engagement in this respect would first require a decision by the Federal Government, followed by consent from the German Parliament. However, no proposals would be submitted to the government or parliament until a ceasefire is reached, as stated by German Chancellor Friedrich Merz in a government statement.
Merz clarified that as soon as the participating countries concur on a joint approach to execute the post-fighting measures, any potential German military contribution would not take place on Ukrainian soil, but on the territory of a NATO ally neighboring the country.
Meanwhile, Merz participated in the Paris meeting, which included representatives of 35 countries from the “Coalition of the Willing” supporting Ukraine, with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and a U.S. delegation including Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner in attendance.
The participating countries agreed on security guarantees should a ceasefire come into effect.
