Minister of Housing and Urban Planning, Amna bint Ahmed Al Romaihi, and Minister of Sustainable Development, Noor bint Ali Alkhulaif, met the Secretary-General of the Supreme Council for Planning and Development (SCPD), Dr. Khalid Mahdi.
The meeting was held on the sidelines of the Bahraini delegation’s participation at United Nations High-Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development 2023, entitled “Accelerating Recovery from the Coronavirus Disease and the full implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development at all levels” to present the second Voluntary National Review (VNR) of the Kingdom of Bahrain on the progress made in achieving the 2030 Agenda and the SDGs.
During the meeting, the ministers highlighted Bahrain’s strong commitment to adopting the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and aligning them with the Government Plan (2023-2026), outlining the efforts of the Government of Bahrain to ensure the multidimensional integration of these goals economically, socially and environmentally and to exchange expertise gained and lessons learnt with others nations to contribute to the global momentum to accelerate the realisation of the SDGs.
Dr. Khalid Mahdi said that the second VNR 2023 of the State of Kuwait is an important barometer of the progress made by Kuwait in achieving the 2030 Agenda and the SDGs. He also emphasised the importance of the role of the private sector in sustainable development and the impact of its activities on the 2030 Agenda and the extent to which this sector in the Arab countries is actively contributing to the SDGs through its array of activities.
