Lebanese President Asks German Counterpart to Pressure Israel to Adhere to Ceasefire

Beirut: Lebanese President General Joseph Aoun met in Beirut with his German counterpart Frank-Walter Steinmeier. During the meeting, Aoun asked Steinmeier to pressure Israel into adhering to the ceasefire and withdrawing from the five points in southern Lebanon, according to a statement of the media office of the Lebanese Presidency.

According to Qatar News Agency, Aoun also requested the provision of aid to the Lebanese military and for it to undertake a fundamental role following the end of the mission of the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL), adding that Lebanon is no longer able to put up with conflicts, whatever they are.

For his part, Steinmeier called on both Lebanon and Israel to live up to the ceasefire agreement. He also called for the withdrawal of Israeli soldiers from southern Lebanon, stressing that permanent occupation of Lebanese territories is unacceptable and should end.
