Doha: The Agricultural Affairs Department of the Ministry of Municipality has concluded its initiative to purchase locally grown dates from farm owners, which lasted for three weeks and involved 103 local farmers. This initiative represents a significant step towards enhancing local agricultural practices and supporting the economy.
According to Qatar News Agency, this year’s initiative saw the supply of approximately 850 tons of dates, highlighting the ministry’s commitment to supporting the agricultural sector. This effort is aimed at enhancing local date production and ensuring its sustainability. By focusing on cultivating high-quality, economically viable date varieties, the initiative not only increases farmers’ profitability but also strengthens self-sufficiency within the community.
The initiative encourages local farmers to boost their production and market their produce locally, reducing the dependency on imports. This approach enhances local farmers’ income and ensures the sustainability of their
farms by providing a direct marketing platform. Additionally, by supporting local industries, the initiative aids factories and companies specializing in the manufacturing and packaging of dates and date derivatives such as syrup, molasses, and Maamoul. These efforts contribute to the national economy, promote sustainable development, and help preserve Qatar’s agricultural and cultural heritage.
