Doha: The Ministry of Environment and Climate Change (MECC) concluded Thursday the summer training program for a number of students from the Department of Environmental and Biological Sciences at Qatar University. The program was organized from Jun. 15 until today, Thursday, as part of the Ministry’s commitment to supporting and qualifying national competencies to work in environmental fields.
According to Qatar News Agency, the conclusion of the program witnessed the honoring of participants in appreciation of their efforts during the training period and to encourage them to continue their educational and research journey, contributing to the preparation of a generation of national cadres capable of protecting the environment and achieving sustainable development in the country.
The program included a series of practical activities and scientific workshops during which students were introduced to the tasks of the Environmental Monitoring and Inspection Department and its various sections. They were also briefed on the latest scientific methods used in collecting and analyzing environmental samples in line with the highest approved research standards.
The program also focused on enhancing students’ analytical and research skills by integrating them into a realistic work environment that included field visits to various departments and affiliated environmental laboratories. They were trained on preparing scientific environmental reports, while the training included field monitoring operations covering marine environment quality, soil, beaches, marine outfalls, and air quality.
In addition, students received practical training on sample analysis in the environmental laboratory and learned about the mechanisms of laboratory devices used in chemical and biological analyses, with an emphasis on ensuring the quality of results and their alignment with approved environmental standards. The program contributed to developing students’ teamwork and research skills and provided them with field and practical experiences that enhance their readiness to enter the labor market, especially in the fields of environmental monitoring, inspection, and related scientific research.
