MOCI Holds Workshop to Solidify Trademark Infringement Combat


Lusail City: In collaboration with the Brand Owners Protection Group (Gulf BPG), the Ministry of Commerce and Industry (MOCI) organized a training workshop on combating trademark infringement and inspecting genuine versus counterfeit products. The event took place at the Ministry’s headquarters in Lusail City.



According to Qatar News Agency, the workshop aimed to raise awareness about the importance of respecting intellectual property rights and to support national efforts to combat trademark infringement and violations of intellectual property rights. Participants included representatives from MOCI’s Intellectual Property Rights Protection Department and Consumer Protection and Combating Commercial Fraud Department. There were also representatives from the Ministry of Interior’s Economic and Cyber Crimes Combating Department and the General Authority of Customs.



The training program provided a practical overview of various international trademarks’ products and methods to distinguish originals from fakes. It also highlighted key challenges faced by judicial officers during inspection campaigns. The workshop discussed ways to enhance coordination among relevant authorities in identifying violations and explored the latest technologies used in detecting counterfeits.



This workshop is part of MOCI’s efforts to strengthen cooperation between the public and private sectors. It aims to enhance the efficiency and skills of its specialized personnel in detecting counterfeit and fraudulent products and to implement best practices in intellectual property protection. These efforts are intended to ensure a safe commercial environment and safeguard the rights of consumers and trademark owners in the State of Qatar.
