Cairo: The Arab League affirmed that the anniversary of the Balfour Declaration comes this year amidst the continued suffering of the Palestinian people due to the genocidal war waged by Israel in the Gaza Strip, and the violations in the West Bank, including Jerusalem, such as extrajudicial killings, the arrest of thousands, house demolitions, settler terrorism, colonial expansion, theft of resources, and the desecration of Christian and Islamic holy sites.
According to Qatar News Agency, in a statement issued today by the Palestine and Occupied Arab Territories Sector of the League, on the 108th anniversary of the Balfour Declaration, the League’s General Secretariat called on the United Kingdom to take all necessary measures to redress the historical injustice inflicted upon the Palestinian people and to exert all forms of pressure on the occupying authorities to halt their violations and crimes against the Palestinian people.
The statement also urged the UK to refrain from providing any assistance to the expansionist colonial occupation system that contributes to the continuation of the illegal Israeli occupation of the occupied Palestinian territory.
It welcomed the United Kingdom’s decision to recognize the State of Palestine, based on its commitment to the two-state solution as the only way to achieve security, peace and stability in the region, and in line with international will and relevant international legitimacy resolutions, and considering it a step towards correcting the historical error represented by the “ominous” Balfour declaration.
