Palestinian Prisoner Dies in Israeli Custody Amid Rising Concerns

Jenin: The Commission of Detainees and Ex-Detainees Affairs and the Palestinian Prisoner’s Society announced on Sunday the death of a Palestinian prisoner in Israeli occupation custody. In a joint statement, the two organizations reported that the detainee, who was from Jenin refugee camp and had been suffering from cancer, died in an Israeli occupation hospital.

According to Qatar News Agency, the prisoner was arrested on February 1, and his health condition deteriorated sharply following his detention. It was later revealed that he had advanced-stage cancer. He had been transferred from Megiddo Prison to Gilboa, then to Ramleh Prison Clinic. Despite medical examinations confirming his severe condition, Israeli occupation authorities refused to release him, keeping him in detention until his death just one day after he was transferred to the hospital.

With this latest death, the number of prisoners and detainees who have died in Israeli occupation custody since the start of the war on Gaza has risen to 79, all of whom have been identified, amid the ongoing crime of enforced disappearance affecting dozens of other detainees.
