Doha: HE Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al-Thani received phone calls from HE Minister of Foreign Affairs of Canada Anita Anand and HE Foreign Secretary of the United Kingdom Yvette Cooper. The discussions focused on the recent military escalation in the region and its potential impacts on both regional and global security and stability, exploring pathways for resolving disputes through peaceful means.
According to Qatar News Agency, during these calls, HE Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs highlighted the targeting of Qatari soil with Iranian ballistic missiles as a clear violation of Qatar's national sovereignty. He emphasized that such actions are inconsistent with principles of good neighborliness and are unacceptable under any circumstances.
The State of Qatar has consistently refrained from engaging in regional conflicts and has worked to facilitate dialogue between Iran and the international community. However, the continued targeting of its territory is viewed as a negative signal, threatening the foundations of the bilateral relations between the two countries.
His Excellency emphasized the necessity of halting any escalatory actions immediately, returning to negotiations, and prioritizing rational dialogue to contain the crisis and protect regional security. The Canadian and UK foreign ministers echoed these sentiments, condemning the Iranian attack on Qatar's sovereignty and airspace. They stressed that such an assault violates international law and the UN Charter.
