Kuwait city: The State of Qatar participated in the second edition of the High-Level Forum on Regional Security and Cooperation Between the GCC and the European Union, held in Kuwait. Leading Qatar’s delegation was HE Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Sultan bin Saad Al Muraikhi, who underscored the forum’s significance amidst rising political, security, and humanitarian challenges affecting both the Gulf and Europe.
According to Qatar News Agency, HE Al Muraikhi highlighted the emergence of a new geopolitical reality where the rule of force increasingly overshadows the principles of law and justice, often at the expense of others’ rights. He pointed to the ongoing Israeli war on Gaza, now in its second year, as a prime example of escalating violence and deteriorating humanitarian conditions, with repercussions felt across the region.
HE Al Muraikhi disclosed that Qatar had been the target of an Israeli airstrike, which struck a residential area housing over 5,000 citizens and residents, including schools, kindergartens, and diplomatic missions. He expressed Qatar’s gratitude towards GCC states and EU member countries that condemned the attack and stood in solidarity with Qatar.
Despite these challenges, HE Al Muraikhi affirmed that Qatar continues to work with mediation partners, including Egypt and the United States, to seek a comprehensive resolution to the conflict. He welcomed Hamas’s acceptance of a proposal by former US President Donald Trump to end the Gaza war, which includes a commitment to release all hostages as part of a negotiated exchange.
HE Al Muraikhi concluded by affirming the unified stance of the GCC and the European Union in supporting peace, justice, and a rules-based international order. He emphasized the need for intensified efforts to resolve ongoing conflicts through dialogue and diplomacy.
