Qatar Chamber Advocates for New Authority to Bolster National Products at Procurement Forum

Doha: Qatar Chamber highlighted its vision for strengthening public-private partnerships during the opening session of the Annual Forum on the 2026 Government Procurement Plan, emphasizing the importance of collaboration between the two sectors in implementing projects, creating new job opportunities, empowering entrepreneurs, and fostering innovation. Speaking at the session, Board Member of Qatar Chamber, Abdulrahman Al Ansari, noted that several challenges continue to hinder the private sector’s full participation in government procurement.

According to Qatar News Agency, Al Ansari called for the classification of all tenders planned for 2026 and the establishment of an independent authority dedicated to supporting national products and managing procurement, with a representative in each ministry. He affirmed the Chamber’s readiness to contribute to such an authority, which he said should include experts in project evaluation.

Al Ansari also stressed the need for clear product identification in tenders by explicitly stating the product’s name followed by the word “Qatari.” He further proposed holding a dedicated symposium to review international experiences in empowering local products through government procurement systems.

Now in its third edition, the annual forum aims to enhance integration between the public and private sectors by presenting future government procurement plans and opening new opportunities for local companies and entrepreneurs to engage more effectively in the procurement market.
