The Photography Journey, the longest-running cultural exchange program of the Years of Culture initiative, returns under the umbrella of Qatar-Indonesia 2023 Year of Culture this year. Achmad Kafin Noeman and Gevi Noviyanti, two Indonesian photographers, visited Qatar to capture its vibrant landscapes, rich heritage, and diverse culture through their lenses.
They visited various cultural and heritage sites, including Zekreet, Al Zubarah Fort, Purple Island, the National Museum of Qatar, and the worlds first sustainable downtown regeneration project at Msheireb Downtown Doha, among others. The photographers' lens shed light on the importance of cultural preservation and the need to safeguard these invaluable aspects of national and human history.
The photographers are being mentored by Khalifa Al Obaidly, a celebrated Qatari photographer renowned for his expertise in documenting Qatari heritage.
Khalifa Al Obaidly said, "Photography is not just about capturing images; it involves storytelling, preserving cultural heritage, and conveying emotions. Through this exchange, I hope to share my knowledge and passion for documenting Qatari heritage and inspire these talented photographers. Together, we can celebrate and preserve cultural heritage and create lasting connections between Qatar and Indonesia." The Indonesian photographers, along with their Qatari peers who will visit Indonesia in July, will showcase their respective collections during the Jakarta International Photography Festival (JIPFEST 2023) from 8-24 September in Jakarta, Indonesia.
