Doha: The recent violations of the ceasefire in the Gaza Strip were anticipated, as stated by HE Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al-Thani during a panel discussion organised by the Council on Foreign Relations in New York. His Excellency emphasised Qatar’s active involvement with both parties to maintain the ceasefire, highlighting the essential role of the United States in this process.
According to Qatar News Agency, Qatari newspapers underscored that Qatari mediation moved swiftly to address the recent escalation following the Israeli occupation breach of the Gaza ceasefire two days ago. This mediation aimed to preserve the ceasefire in Gaza and ensure the full commitment of both parties to the agreement, as part of Qatar’s ongoing joint mediation efforts. The coordination with the United States was a significant aspect of these efforts, as was the engagement with both the Israeli side and Hamas.
Al-Arab newspaper highlighted that supporting the Palestinian people is a core tenet of Qatar’s foreign policy, rooted in moral and humanitarian obligations. This stance was reiterated by HE Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al-Thani at the Council on Foreign Relations panel discussion, where he acknowledged the challenges faced in mediation efforts since the onset of the crisis on October 7.
The newspaper further noted that Qatar’s efforts in mediation have continued without interruption since the start of the conflict in Gaza. Doha has consistently advocated for a comprehensive solution within the framework of the Arab Peace Initiative, asserting that sustainable peace requires a just resolution.
Al-Sharq newspaper reported that Qatari mediation acted promptly in response to the Israeli breach of the Gaza ceasefire, working closely with the United States and engaging intensively with both Israel and Hamas. The newspaper highlighted the complexity and challenges faced in implementing the Sharm El-Sheikh Agreement, which is based on a ten-point plan by US President Donald Trump.
Al-Sharq emphasised Qatar’s commitment to peaceful conflict resolution and its support for regional stability. Qatar aims to ensure the durability of the agreement and address the root causes of the conflict, advocating for a comprehensive and just settlement based on a two-state solution.
The newspaper concluded by acknowledging Qatar’s extensive experience in mediation and its active role in resolving regional and international conflicts. Qatar’s responsibility extends beyond signing peace agreements to ensuring their successful implementation and lasting stability.
