Road Accident Kills 24 People in Central Morocco

At least 24 people were killed when a vehicle overturned near Demnate in the Azilal province in central Morocco on Sunday.

According to local authorities, the vehicle was on its way to the weekly Demnate rural market when it overturned, killing at least 24 passengers and leaving others injured.

Morocco's authorities quickly arrived at the scene of the accident to aid the injured and recover the victims, while the Royal Moroccan Gendarmerie has opened investigations to fully understand the circumstances of the accident.

This incident comes a year after a public bus overturned in Khouribga, in which 15 people were killed and 37 others were injured.

The Moroccan authorities aim to reduce the number of traffic accidents in the country by 2026. Last year, 114,000 accidents and 3,201 deaths were recorded.
