Shura Council Participates in 37th General Assembly of Latin American and Caribbean Parliament

A Shura Council delegation participated in the 37th General Assembly of the Latin American and Caribbean Parliament, which concluded its 2-day sessions today in Panama City.

The Shura Council was represented by HE Dr. Sultan bin Hassan Al Dhabat Al Dosari, Shura Council Member and Chairman of the Qatari Parliamentary Friendship Group with Latin American and Caribbean Countries, and group members.

The Council’s participation comes in its capacity as an observer member, since the State of Qatar became the first country in the Middle East to join this important regional forum in June 2019.

The 37th General Assembly was held under the theme of women and girls: necessary players towards the development of Latin America and the Caribbean. The General Assembly consisted of several meetings including those of: the parliamentary forum for African, Latin American and Caribbean states, and the meeting of the Arab Inter-Parliamentary Union.

The General Assembly of the Latin American and Caribbean Parliament also hosted a ministerial conference dealing with the impact of irregular migration in Latin America, with a focus on women and girls, as well as another conference on the issue of women and children in the development of the continent.

On the sidelines of the Assembly’s sessions, the Shura Council delegation held a number of side meetings, covering parliamentary cooperation relations between the State of Qatar and a number of Latin American countries and ways of further strengthening and developing them.
