Doha: HE Minister of Social Affairs and Labor of the Syrian Arab Republic Hind Kabawat stated that Syria’s participation for the first time in the 6th Islamic Conference of Labor Ministers carries profound symbolic and political significance, and it marks the country’s reintegration into its Arab and Islamic surrounding and sends a powerful message of hope to the world: Syria has returned-and it’s a welcome return.
According to Qatar News Agency, in an interview on the sidelines of her participation in the conference, held under the theme “Local Experiences, Global Achievements: Success Stories from the Islamic World,” Kabawat emphasized Syria’s absence from such events for many years. Syrian efforts have focused on keeping the country’s name present internationally through civil and human rights activities. She highlighted that the current participation aims to meet Syrian people’s aspirations and strengthen cooperation with sisterly countries.
Kabawat acknowledged Qatar’s support for the Syrian people throughout the 14-year crisis, praising Doha’s humanitarian and moral assistance during Syria’s challenging times. She expressed Syria’s interest in benefiting from Qatar’s advanced labor market, particularly in vocational training, social insurance, and capacity building. Plans are underway to update outdated Syrian labor legislation from the 1950s.
The Minister praised Qatar’s support for Syria, noting that it has expanded to multiple areas of cooperation. She expressed hope for integrating Syrian workers into the Qatari labor market, given high unemployment rates in Syria, and highlighted Syrian workers’ efficiency and adaptability.
Kabawat admired Qatar’s accomplishments in the labor market, particularly in technological development and legislative frameworks, viewing Qatar as a model for Syria’s rebuilding and reform efforts. The Syrian ministry has launched a labor platform and is enhancing cooperation with Qatar to create joint opportunities.
She also acknowledged the significant role of Qatari women in the labor market, praising their leadership and contribution to development, and expressed a desire to learn from this inspiring experience.
