The United States has announced its intention to temporarily deploy Tomahawk cruise missiles and other long-range weapons in Germany, starting in 2026.
The United States and Germany explained, in a joint statement on the sidelines of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) summit on Wednesday, that this comes within the framework of strengthening military deterrence by the United States to protect European partner countries in the alliance.
The statement added that SM6 air defense missiles and newly developed hypersonic weapons, which have a much longer range than current ground systems in Europe, will also be deployed.
Cruise missiles, such as the German Taurus missiles, are characterized by the ability to fly at low altitude deep inside hostile territory and destroy important targets.
These targets can include command centers, bunkers, and radar installations.
Therefore, the Tomahawk missile is launched from ships or submarines, while the Taurus missile is launched from Planes.
