Berlin: Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stressed, in a phone call today with German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, the need for European participation in the peace process between his country and Russia.
According to Qatar News Agency, during the call, Zelenskyy said that “Ukraine is not afraid of meetings and expects the same courageous approach from the Russian side,” while Merz expressed his country’s continued support for Ukraine.
The two sides discussed military and political developments following US Special Envoy Steve Witkoff’s meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin regarding the war in Ukraine, and the importance of maintaining close communication with European partners and the United States.
This phone call between the Ukrainian and German authorities comes ahead of the upcoming meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and his US counterpart Donald Trump next week.
