According to Qatar News Agency, Spain also achieved a notable milestone by completing the group stage without conceding a goal for the first time in FIFA World Cup history. They opened their campaign with a goalless draw against Cape Verde before cruising to a 4-0 victory over Saudi Arabia and rounding off the group phase with a narrow win over Uruguay.
Uruguay finished the match with 10 men after Agustin Canobbio was sent off in second-half stoppage time following a second yellow card.
