Doha: An earthquake with a magnitude of 3 on the Richter scale struck the Chlef province in western Algeria.
According to Qatar News Agency, a statement from Algeria's Center for Research in Astronomy, Astrophysics, and Geophysics indicated that the earthquake occurred 1 kilometer southwest of the Chlef province.
Algeria is occasionally affected by earthquakes and tremors, with the most devastating being the earthquake that struck the Boumerdes province in the northern part of the country in May 2003, which had a magnitude of 6.8 and resulted in the deaths of 2,277 people and massive destruction in the region.
