4.8-Magnitude Earthquake Strikes Southern Peru

Junin: An earthquake measuring 4.8 magnitude on the Richter scale struck on Wednesday in the Junin region in southern Peru.

According to Qatar News Agency, the US Geological Survey (USGS) reported that the quake occurred 4 km west of Mariposa town in the region at a depth of 97.8 km. There have been no reports of casualties or material damage due to the earthquake so far.

Peru, being located on the Pacific Ring of Fire, experiences at least 400 earthquakes yearly that are felt by residents. This seismic activity point extends along the west coast of the American continent, making the region particularly prone to earthquakes.
