Doha: A 4.8-magnitude earthquake struck Sunday the island nation of Tonga in the South Pacific Ocean. The US Geological Survey reported that the earthquake occurred 30 km southwest of Hihifo, at a depth of 119.3 km.
According to Qatar News Agency, there were no immediate reports of casualties or damage from the earthquake. No tsunami warnings were issued.
Tonga is an archipelago of 176 islands scattered in the South Pacific Ocean, of which only 52 are inhabited, located northwest of New Zealand and Australia.
