Batanes: An earthquake measuring 4.9 magnitude on the Richter scale hit on Monday the Province of Batanes in northern Philippines. According to Qatar News Agency, the epicenter of the quake occurred 66 km from Basco city in Batanes, at a depth of 160 km, according to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS). There have been no reports of casualties or material damage due to the earthquake so far. The Philippines is exposed to volcanic and seismic activity due to its location on the Pacific Ring of Fire.
