Post: 46th Session of UNESCO World Heritage Committee Begins in India

The 46th session of the UNESCO World Heritage Committee began on Monday in the Indian capital, New Delhi, and will continue until July 31. During the session, the Committee will study proposals to include 27 new sites in different regions of the world on the World Heritage List. It will also study the state of preservation of 124 sites already included on the World Heritage List and on the List of World Heritage in Danger. The World Heritage Committee is one of the two governing bodies of the Convention for the Protection of the World Cultural and Natural Heritage, and it consists of representatives from 21 countries elected by the 195 countries that are parties to the Convention. The Committee is responsible for implementing the Convention, studying new proposals for inscription on the World Heritage List, and assessing the state of conservation of sites previously inscribed on the List, based on the analysis carried out by UNESCO's advisory bodies and the Secretariat.
