5.5-Magnitude Earthquake Strikes Indonesia’s Maluku Region

Doha: An earthquake measuring 5.5 magnitude on the Richter scale struck the southwestern Maluku region of Indonesia on Sunday.

According to Qatar News Agency, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG), the quake's epicenter was located at a depth of 139 kilometers. BMKG provided this information as part of their ongoing monitoring and reporting on seismic activities in the region.

Indonesia is prone to frequent seismic activity due to its location along the Pacific Ring of Fire. The Ring of Fire is known for its high level of tectonic activity, which often results in earthquakes and volcanic eruptions.
