Sarangani: An earthquake measuring 5.9 on the Richter scale struck an area approximately 32 kilometers southwest of Sarangani in the Philippines.
According to Qatar News Agency, the US Geological Survey reported that the earthquake's epicenter was at a depth of 10 kilometers. There have been no immediate reports of casualties or damage following the seismic event.
The Philippines is no stranger to seismic activities, as evidenced by a much stronger 7.8 magnitude earthquake that struck the southern region on June 8. That particular disaster resulted in the tragic loss of 65 lives, left 35 people missing, and displaced thousands.
The frequent occurrence of earthquakes in the Philippines is attributed to its location along the Pacific Ring of Fire, a geologically active area where several tectonic plates converge, leading to increased volcanic and seismic activity.
