Abdulaziz Al Kathiri’s INHERENT wins Lisha Cup

The Qatar Racing and Equestrian Club (QREC) organised the 15th race meeting in the 2022-23 season calendar of the Al Uqda Racecourse on Wednesday, 8 February. The seven-race card day was run on dirt. The day’s feature contest, the Lisha Cup, a 1400m Handicap (70-90(for 4YO+ Thoroughbreds, saw the third of the day’s wide-margin winners, as Abdulaziz Ali Al Kathiri’s Inherent (GB) (Dubawi x Integral) ran out a four-length winner under jockey Carlos Henrique for trainer Zuhair Mohsen. The Mohamed Abdulla S Al-Hajri-owned and Hamad Al-Jehani-trained Stanley Baldwin (GB) (Showcasing) finished second under Szczepan Mazur and was almost two lengths ahead of the third-placed, the Al Ghazali Stud-owned and Gassim Ghazali-trained Seulomonde (GB) (Dubawi), who was ridden by Lukas Delozier.

Abdulla Rashid Al Kubaisi, QREC Racing Manager, crowned the winners after the final race of the day.

Amjad Al Shajaa

The day began in some style as the Hassan Bin Ali Hassan Al Matwi-bred, owned and trained Amjad Al Shajaa (QA) (La Hoor x Al Jawdah) bolted up by five lengths under jockey Szczepan Mazur in the 1300m Maiden for 4YOs Purebred Arabians.

Onwaan

In the second race, Onwaan (QA) (Hatteen x Umm Ghuwailina) was another remarkable winner on the day as the 5YO, under jockey Saleh Salem Al Marri, put three and a half lengths between himself and the field in the 1300m Novice for 4YO+ Purebred Arabians, recording a quick-fire double for owner-trainer Hassan Bin Ali Hassan Al Matwi.

Cobber Kain

In the 1300m Handicap (0-70) for 4YO+ Thoroughbreds, Ali Saeed Ali Al Naimi’s Cobber Kain (GB) (Sepoy x Doctor Serena) went one better than he did last week. Under jockey Prakash Akhade, the 6YO took the third race in the card by a length for trainer Mohammed Hamad Al Attiya.

Tishka

Al Wasmiyah Farm’s Tishka (IRE) (Ribchester x Avenue Montaigne), on fourth career start and in the day’s fourth race, got off the mark with a comfortable one-length win under jockey Soufiane Saadi for trainer Georges Mikhalides in the 1300m Handicap (0-75) for 3YO Thoroughbreds.

Alwaad

Abdulatif Hussain Al Emadi’s homebred Alwaad (QA) (Trade Storm x Farendole) gave another good performance in the fifth race, adding a second win to his tally. The 4YO topped the 1300m Handicap (65-85) for 4YO+ Local Thoroughbreds by a length for trainer Bader Al Balushi and jockey Hugo Besnier.

Rahaf HA

Abdulaziz Saleh Al Jaber’s Rahaf HA (QA) (AF AlBahar x Shahirat Al Naif) won the penultimate event of the day, the 1300m Handicap (0-90) for 4YO+ Purebred Arabians. Under Jockey Khadija Abdulwahed, the 6Y mare stayed on strongly on the rail and at the home bend surged to take the lead and win by a length and a quarter for trainer Hadi Al Ramzani.
