AL RAYYAN: Al Rayyan Municipality has embarked on an ambitious afforestation campaign aimed at enhancing environmental sustainability by planting trees in outdoor spaces, utilizing solar-powered irrigation systems. This initiative is part of a broader effort to plant one million trees, aligning with the ministry’s sustainable development goals.
According to Qatar News Agency, the municipality plans to plant 3,963 offshoots across various locations, including Al Karaana, Jariyan Al Batnah, western Umm Qarn, Al Aamriya, Umm Hawta, and Al Dard Al Markhiya. The implementation of a solar-powered irrigation network in the Umm Qarn area is a key component of this initiative, designed to operate water pumps in remote regions without relying on traditional electrical networks or power generators.
The solar-powered system is engineered to minimize water waste and ensure continuous irrigation in areas where extending electrical networks is challenging. This system also offers adaptability to climate changes and dry conditions, making it a sustainable solution for irrigation.
The project aims to achieve several environmental and strategic objectives, such as reducing greenhouse gases, decreasing air and water pollution, conserving natural resources, and enhancing climate change adaptation. Additionally, it seeks to rationalize water consumption, particularly during dry seasons, highlighting its importance in addressing pressing environmental issues.
