Post: Arab League Condemns Israeli Diplomatic Moves in Somaliland Region

Hargeisa:Cairo The League of Arab States has expressed strong condemnation over recent Israeli diplomatic activities in the northwestern region of the Federal Republic of Somalia, known as Somaliland. This comes after the Israeli ambassador presented credentials to local authorities and laid the foundation stone for an Israeli embassy in Hargeisa.

According to Qatar News Agency, Secretary-General of the League of Arab States Nabil Fahmy stated that these actions represent a blatant violation of Somalia's sovereignty and territorial integrity. He noted that the Arab League views these developments as part of a broader effort to exploit internal divisions within Somalia to advance Israeli military and political influence near the Gulf of Aden.

Fahmy reiterated the Arab League's stance that the Somaliland region remains an integral part of Somalia. He emphasized the League's rejection of any official or quasi-official engagement with Somaliland's authorities outside the framework of Somalia's national sovereignty.

The Arab League's position is consistent with resolutions from its extraordinary session on December 28, 2025, and its regular session in September 2026, both of which condemned Israeli attempts to partition Somalia. The Secretary-General affirmed the League's complete solidarity with Somalia and its legitimate institutions, cautioning against the potential impact of these actions on regional security in the Horn of Africa, the Red Sea, and the Gulf of Aden.
