Arab League Marks Arab Day for Older Persons, International Volunteer Day

Cairo: Arab League organized a celebration at its headquarters in Cairo, on Monday, to mark Arab Day for Older Persons and International Volunteer Day. The event brought together a host of Arab ministers, heads of the specialized councils, as well as representatives of the United Nations Population Fund (UNPF) and the United Nations Volunteers programme.

According to Qatar News Agency, Assistant Secretary-General and Head of the Arab League's Social Affairs Sector, Ambassador Dr. Haifa Abu Ghazala, said the ceremony comes in implementation of the Arab strategy for older persons endorsed by the Arab summit in Tunisia in 2019, and the Arab strategy for voluntary work adopted by the Arab summit in Algeria in 2022, based on the decisions of the Council of Arab Ministers of Social Affairs.

She highlighted that the event represents a crucial message from the Arab League and its relevant ministerial councils to underscore their resolve to proceed with the social development, despite the challenges, noting the role of voluntary work in supporting older persons and paying tribute to their achievements.
