Doha: The Arab League Wednesday warned of the grave consequences of Israel's expanded ground assault on Gaza City, stressing that the attack represents a highly dangerous new chapter in what it described as an ongoing genocide carried out by Israel in Gaza over the past two years.
According to Qatar News Agency, in a strongly worded statement, the League condemned what it called clear efforts by the Israeli occupation to force the Palestinian people in Gaza to leave their homeland under the threat of death or starvation, describing it as an attempt to implement a displacement scenario that is rejected both regionally and internationally, and in violation of international law and humanitarian norms.
The League emphasized that the military operation in Gaza City reflects reckless behavior by the occupation and constitutes a blatant violation of international humanitarian law, especially given that the overwhelming majority of Gaza's population consists of civilians, including women and children.
It also denounced the international community's failure to curb Israeli aggression, calling for urgent action to halt what it described as lawless brutality in the region.
The League warned that the world will pay a heavy price for its inaction and for allowing Israeli leaders, whom it accused of being consumed by a dangerous obsession with Palestinian bloodshed, to continue rendering Gaza uninhabitable.
In this context, the Arab League welcomed the findings of the UN Independent Commission of Inquiry on the Occupied Palestinian Territory, including East Jerusalem, which concluded that Israel has indeed committed genocide against Palestinians in Gaza. The Commission directly implicated the Israeli Prime Minister, President, and former Chief of Staff.
The League stressed that these findings must compel the international community to pursue accountability for war crimes and take all possible measures to stop the genocide unfolding in Gaza before the eyes of the world.
