Post: Arabic Language’s Role in Cultural Spheres Highlighted at Riyadh Conference

Riyadh:The 5th Annual International Conference of the King Salman Global Academy for Arabic Language (KSGAAL) concluded with a focus on enhancing the presence of Arabic in cultural, intellectual, and digital arenas.

According to Qatar News Agency, the conference, which was held under the theme "Arabic Language and Culture: Intersections and Dimensions," featured participation from researchers and specialists in language and culture. The participants emphasized the importance of linguistic studies in exploring the relationship between Arabic and cultural identity, as well as its contributions to heritage, collective memory, and creative and cultural texts.

The conference recommendations included expanding research into the influence of Arabic beyond the Arab world, examining its impact on other languages, cultures, literatures, and international institutions, and emphasizing its role in cross-cultural communication.

In its closing statement, the conference called for enriching Arabic language education programs, particularly for non-native speakers, with a focus on educational materials and digital platforms that integrate linguistic proficiency and communicative competence.

The statement also advocated for supporting applied research in digital culture and artificial intelligence, addressing identity representation, cultural knowledge, Arabic content creation, large language models, and monitoring bias in digital and generative environments.

A call was made for integrating language planning with cultural policies and supporting national legislation to safeguard the status of Arabic, expanding its presence across various domains. Participants also urged continued scholarly dialogue and cooperation among linguistic, cultural, educational, and media institutions to foster expertise exchange and joint initiatives for the Arabic language.
