Doha: Art Basel CEO Noah Horowitz has expressed enthusiasm for the partnership with Qatar Sports Investments (QSI) and QC+, highlighting the significant potential for growth within Qatar's art ecosystem.
According to Qatar News Agency, Horowitz emphasized that Art Basel has consistently attracted collectors and patrons from the MENA region to its global fairs. This initiative aims to open a gateway to the vibrant creative culture in the Middle East, expanding the network of collectors, gallerists, artists, and cultural leaders involved in the art market both regionally and globally.
Horowitz praised HE Sheikha Al Mayassa bint Hamad Al-Thani's vision for fostering an arts ecosystem in Qatar. He highlighted Art Basel's dedication to supporting artists in reaching their potential and succeeding on a global scale.
Qatar's ambition and achievements in the arts are evident, with world-class art collections, prestigious museums, and festivals dedicated to design, photography, film, fashion, and more. These developments are the result of years of effort, positioning Qatar as an ideal partner for Art Basel's regional expansion.
Addressing the decentralization of the art world, where new art centers are emerging beyond the West, Horowitz noted that Art Basel's mission is to meet the needs of the global community, opening new markets for galleries, artists, collectors, and audiences.
The art scene in the GCC has grown significantly in recent years, and Horowitz believes it's the right time to further accelerate this growth by fostering connections among audiences and networks.
Art Basel Qatar is set to launch as a curated platform featuring approximately 50 exhibitors, showcasing prominent galleries and artists. This strategic plan aims to distinguish the fair within the global network, aligning with current market trends and setting the stage for future growth.
