Doha: Australian researchers developed a new technology to deliver anti-cancer drugs directly to brain tumors, offering hope for hard-to-treat cancers. Teams from the Walter and Eliza Hall Institute, The Royal Melbourne Hospital, and Peter MacCallum Cancer Center are targeting the blood-brain barrier, a natural shield that blocks most drugs from reaching brain tissue.
According to Qatar News Agency, the team links small drug molecules to antibody fragments to bypass the barrier and target tumors effectively. The project focuses on high-grade gliomas, including adult glioblastoma and specific pediatric brain tumors, aiming to deliver precise treatments without harming healthy tissue.
