Awqaf Ministry’s Cochlear Implant Initiative Advances in Kyrgyzstan

Bishkek: The Cochlear Implant Support Committee, affiliated with the Ministry of Endowments (Awqaf) and Islamic Affairs, is actively continuing its medical mission in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan, during a visit that will last until Friday. The committee's primary goal is to conduct cochlear implant surgeries for children with hearing impairments as part of a collaborative effort between the General Directorate of Endowments (Awqaf) and the Ministry of Public Health. This initiative is supported by the Cochlear Implant Endowment through the Healthcare Endowment Fund.

According to Qatar News Agency, Eng. Abdullah bin Mohammed Al Meer, Assistant Director General of the General Directorate of Endowments (Awqaf) and Head of the Cochlear Implant Support Committee, stated that a Qatari medical team has commenced surgeries following the examination of 69 cases to assess their readiness for cochlear implantation. The visit includes a comprehensive evaluation phase, featuring advanced hearing tests and speech assessments to determine each child's suitability for the surgery and to ensure a high success rate.

He further explained that the committee is executing a strategic plan to perform more than 50 cochlear implant surgeries. This plan also includes implementing rehabilitation and speech therapy programs for children who have undergone surgery in previous years. The team conducts daily reviews of cases following surgeries to monitor the stability of success indicators and the children's auditory and linguistic responses.

Al Meer highlighted the extensive support provided by the Qatari Embassy in the Kyrgyz Republic, which includes coordinating with the Kyrgyz Ministry of Health and collaborating hospitals. This support also extends to facilitating the entry of medical equipment and supplies, as well as offering logistical and administrative aid to the delegation, ensuring smooth operations and integration of field efforts.

The Cochlear Implant Support Committee emerges from the collaboration between the General Directorate of Endowments (Awqaf) at the Ministry of Endowments and Islamic Affairs and the Ministry of Public Health. It supervises joint programs aimed at treating hearing-impaired children both domestically and internationally, utilizing specialized Qatari medical personnel with backing from the Cochlear Implant Endowment, a key initiative of the Waqf Bank for Healthcare.

The Cochlear Implant Endowment reflects Qatar's commitment to promoting humanitarian values and sustainable health development. The committee's ongoing success in Kyrgyzstan and other regions underscores the synergy between Qatari endowment and medical efforts, reinforcing the General Directorate of Endowments' mission to serve humanity and foster development with a lasting, positive charitable impact.

The Cochlear Implant Endowment is dedicated to funding surgeries, supplying medical devices, and supporting auditory rehabilitation programs both inside and outside Qatar, aligning with endowments' objectives to enhance health initiatives that safeguard hearing and enable children to fully participate in society.
