Bank of England Keeps Interest Rates at 4 Percent

Doha: The Bank of England, the UK's central bank, has decided to maintain the main interest rate at 4 percent. This decision comes amidst ongoing inflation concerns, as inflation rates continue to exceed the bank's established target.

According to Qatar News Agency, the Monetary Policy Committee, consisting of nine members, was largely anticipated to hold the current rate steady. This decision was made despite some market expectations of a potential quarter-point reduction in the interest rate.

The primary justification for maintaining the interest rate at its current level is the increase in the annual consumer price inflation rate to 3.8 percent. This figure is nearly double the Bank of England's target inflation rate of 2 percent, highlighting persistent inflationary pressures within the UK economy.
