BERLIN: German police detained approximately 330 individuals during New Year’s Eve celebrations in Berlin due to dangerous use of fireworks, as reported by the police.
According to Qatar News Agency, the majority of the arrests were related to breaches of laws governing the use of fireworks or weapons. A police spokesperson revealed that 13 officers sustained injuries during the night, with one officer requiring surgery after being struck by unauthorized fireworks.
Fireworks are strictly regulated in Berlin, with specific streets designated as no-firework zones. The use of fireworks is only permitted on New Year’s Eve from 18:00 to 7:00. Those found violating these regulations face fines of up to EUR 10,000.
To ensure safety during the celebrations, around 4,000 police officers were deployed across the capital.
