Caretaker Minister of Foreign Affairs and Emigrants, Dr. Abdallah Bou Habib, on Wednesday received in his office, the United Nations Special Coordinator for Lebanon, Jeanine Hennis-Plasschaert.
Discussions reportedly touched on the situation in southern Lebanon, as well as the dangerous Israeli escalation following the cyber attack which led to twelve fatalities and thousands of injuries as a result of the explosion of communication devices in several Lebanese regions.
Caretaker Minister Bou Habib stressed that “the unprecedented and strongly condemned Israeli attack represents a blatant assault on Lebanon’s sovereignty and its security, and a clear violation of all international conventions and norms.”
Bou Habib warned of “the seriousness of what happened, especially since it comes amid Israeli threats to expand the scope of the war with Lebanon, which could plunge the region into a greater cycle of violence and forecasts the outbreak of a wider conflict.”
The Foreign Minister also called on “the United
Nations to exert maximum pressure on Israel to stop its escalation, put an end to its attacks on Lebanon, and push it to implement Security Council Resolution 1701 and withdraw from the Lebanese territories it still occupies.”
